Coeliac UK welcomes new Cross Party Group in Scottish Parliament A new Cross Party Group (CPG) in the Scottish Parliament on Coeliac Disease and DH has now been approved. The Group will seek to improve the quality of life of people living with the condition including diagnosis and treatment of coeliac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis. It is a positive announcement for people with the condition in Scotland. Coeliac UK Chief Executive Sarah Sleet said: "1 in 100 people1 are estimated to suffer from coeliac disease in the UK; however, we estimate around 43,000 people in Scotland are left undiagnosed. Jim Tolson MSP and Margo MacDonald MSP have done a great job in putting coeliac disease high up on the political agenda and we very much look forward to working with the Cross Party Group in the future." Jim Tolson MSP/Convenor said: "I am grateful for the help and assistance provided by Coeliac UK in setting up the Cross Party Group on Coeliac Disease and DH in the Scottish Parliament. I aim to ensure that the issues of raising awareness, improving diagnosis and improving access to gluten-free food will be vigorously followed by the CPG in the Scottish Parliament". A special thank you to Group Organisers Wilma Fraser, Frances Jones and Yvonne Murray for their hard work, time and commitment in making this happen. |
